Unconditional Love

Shweta and Vinita were best friends and they shared almost everything but husband was different issue altogether. Shweta was happily married to Vinit. It was a love marriage and meant everything for her. She had told several times to Vinita that Vinit was very important for her. Initially Vinita had found it difficult to digest that someone could be more important for Shweta than her but had she accepted it over a period of time. She had also not liked it when Shweta told Vinita about Vinit only after getting married.
Everything was fine till the day when Vinita landed up on Shwetas’ bed making love to Shwetas’ husband. Since that day her own guilt made her avoid coming in contact with Shweta. She felt that she had lost the lifetime friendship she shared with Shweta.

Today, more than two years after that incidence, as Vinita stood at the balcony looking blankly towards the horizon, she was filled with the same guilt. The soft breeze played with her hair, which was still wet due to perspiration. The sun was spreading its arms to embrace the sky, which was blushing because of the suns’ morning kiss.
The vast sky was changing its color and it was reflected in the tear-filled eyes of Vinita. She did not know as to why she was crying but something was piercing at her heart from within. One moment she was so happy and the very next moment sadness gripped her heart as if it was meant to be like this, as if she was meant to live the cursed life. This was perhaps the guilt of the sin she had committed in the past. The same guilt had made it impossible for her to live her life normally. She did not understand how to assemble the shattered pieces and move ahead in life accepting that all of what had happened between the three was nothing but the game of fate.

Her husband was sleeping peacefully, satiated after making love to her but Vinita found it difficult to sleep. Every time they made love Vinita remembered the day she had sex with Vinit, her best friends’ husband. Vinita hated herself for this and the guilt was killing her from within. As if this was not enough Vinita had even tried to commit suicide but was saved by timely intervention of her husband who loved her very much and did not want to let her go. But did he mean so much for her? Had it been so, she would have not attempted suicide only because of her guilt.

In spite of all her attempts Vinita could not erase the memories of the past sin.
She still remembered ~
When Shweta had told her about Vinit she had promised herself never to come across Vinit, as she disliked him for the importance he had in Shwetas’ life. But one day when Shweta was not around Vinit had called for Shweta from the bathroom asking for the towel. Left with no option she got up from the sofa and walked to Shwetas’ bedroom to get the towel. She cursed her decision to meet Shweta, which had put her in an awkward position when she had to come face to face with Vinit. Little had she known that the decision would change the course of her life! As she walked towards the bathroom with the towel in spite of herself she found her heart beating faster than normal. As she stretched out her hand to give the towel to Vinit, to her horror Vinit pulled her inside. She somehow struggled with him, managed to get out of the bathroom and straightaway dashed out of the house, her clothes little wet with water on Vinits’ body and her body on fire because of his touch.

After that episode something had changed in Vinita. Now, she did not dislike Vinit and did not mind his presence around. At times, when Shweta was not around to her surprise Vinita found that Vinit tried to get closer to her. He even gave her hints that indicated that he was interested in her, like - coming from behind and playing with her hair, smelling her perfume and brushing against her skin. These weird approaches had not only surprised Vinita but she also found it disgusting. She was also tempted to tell Shweta about these but she never discussed Vinit with Shweta. She found that to some extent even she liked the importance she got.

One day when Shweta was not around and Vinita was in kitchen making coffee for Vinit and her, she realized that Vinit was standing near the door. Her heart started beating faster and louder and she wished Shweta would return. She switched off the burner and filtered the coffee in the mugs and turned around and almost immediately she felt the strong grip of Vinits’ arms around her waist and his wet lips on her neck tracing their way to her lips. She wanted to protest, push him back but she found herself reciprocating his kiss. While they were still kissing she unbuttoned Vinits’ shirt and Vinit carried her in his arms and walked towards the bedroom, his and Shwetas’ bedroom.
